How to Configure "Mail.ru" for Third-Party Apps?


Follow this complete guide to securely connect your Mail.ru account with Regzion or any other IMAP-supported email application using 2FA and an app-specific password.

Step 1: Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on Mail.ru

1) Log in to your Mail.ru account at mail.ru.

2) Click the Gear icon "Settings" in the bottom-left corner and select All Settings.

3) Go to Security and find the section labeled Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and enable it.

4) Follow the prompts to link your phone number or authenticator app.

5) Confirm activation via SMS or authenticator verification.

Step 2: Generate an App-Specific Password

1) After enabling 2FA, go back to Settings → All Settings → Security → Passwords for External Applictaions.

2) Click Add button.

3) Insert a name like "Regzion" or other as per your preference and click on Continue.

4) Confirn by adding your original Mail.ru password and get new one-time app-specific password (e.g., mX9hGk3#...).

5) Copy and save this password securely. You will use it instead of your regular password in third-party email apps.

Step 3: Configure Regzion or Other Email Clients

1) Open Regzion or your preferred IMAP-compatible email client.

2) Enter the following Mail.ru server settings:

  • IMAP Server: imap.mail.ru
  • IMAP Port: 993 (SSL/TLS)
  • SMTP Server: smtp.mail.ru
  • SMTP Port: 465 (SSL) or 587 (STARTTLS)
  • Username: Your full Mail.ru email (e.g., yourname@mail.ru)
  • Password: The app-specific password from Step 2

3) Save and test your connection by sending a test email.
