How to Set Up "Fastmail" in Third-Party Applications?


This guide explains how to securely configure your Fastmail account for use with Regzion Software or any IMAP-compatible third-party email client. By enabling 2-step verification and generating an app-specific password, you ensure secure access while maintaining full compatibility.

Step 1: Enable Two-Step Verification

1 ) Log in to your Fastmail account at https://www.fastmail.com.

2 ) Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner and press View All Settings.

3 ) Select Password & Security from the right sidebar, and locate and press the Set-Up Two-Step Verification button.

4 ) Select the mode of adding verification device. (Select Authenticator app (TOTP), scan the QR code, enter the verification code, and finish the setup).

Note: Two-step verification is required before you can create app-specific passwords.

Step 2: Generate an App-Specific Password

1 ) Stay in the Password & Security section of your Fastmail account.

2 ) Scroll to bottom and search for Connected apps & API Tokens, then click on Manage App Passwords and Access.

3 ) Click on New app password and label the password (e.g., “Regzion Backup”).

4 ) Hit on Generate and securely copy the password. Use it in place of your login password in third-party apps.

Step 3: Fast Mail Configuration Settings for Email Client/Third Party Apps

Use the following settings in Regzion Software, or any IMAP-compatible email client:

  • IMAP Server: imap.fastmail.com
  • IMAP Port: 993 (SSL required)
  • SMTP Server: smtp.fastmail.com
  • SMTP Port: 465 (SSL) or 587 (STARTTLS)
  • Username: Your full Fastmail email address (e.g., user@fastmail.com)
  • Password: The app-specific password from Step 2

After configuration: Test your connection to verify successful authentication. Then proceed with your intended operations (e.g., backup or email migration).

Pro Tip: Always use SSL/TLS or STARTTLS to keep your connection secure.
